I picked this up on a whim. Not having heard of the author but the beautiful cover and synopsis had me hooked. Semele Cavnow is an intelligent women which adds depth to the story. Then you have the sexy Theo Bossard who you’re not always sure of his intentions. I love how the book switches between an ancient manuscript and present time. There’s enough adventure and mystery to keep the pages turning. 🌟🌟🌟🌟/5 •

I was excited to read this book when I found out the author was inspired to write this book after finding out there was a real Premonitions Bureau that existed from the late sixties to the early nineties. I love historical fiction and YA books, so I thought this might be a fun spin on both. This book did not disappoint!
This was a fun, easy read that had some good twists and turns. I think this is a great book for someone who is beginning to read thrillers or enjoys thrillers that aren’t too extreme. It definitely made me curious to learn more about the real Premonitions Bureau. I also enjoyed The Premonitions Club Handbook at the end of the story. It went a little more in depth on the different types of psychic abilities, which I thought was a lot of fun. There is also a small romantic story on the side that is sweet, but a very small portion of the story line and has zero spice.

I personally love stories that revolve around artifacts, history, and museums, which was what drew me in initially. Semele, our modern day antiquity appraiser, stumbles upon a manuscript written by an ancient seer describing a unique tarot deck and its journey through the ages. The catch? The seer has written down events that happen thousands of years after her death, events that somehow involve our present day main character.
I’ve never been incredibly into tarot decks or things of that sort but the way the author wrote the story from the past and took us along the journey of the tarot cards and the women involved in each new era was something I appreciated. Each chapter skipped around again from the perspective of Semele reading and reacting to what she had just read, to switching to giving us the perspective of reading from the manuscript ourselves. I liked how, as the reader, the past timeline was easy to follow and we were given just enough about those character to appreciate them and learn about the historical time period but still focus on the action and have the tarot deck and its impact as the main focus.
After the first few chapters, it definitely picked up and I couldn’t put the book down. But the present day plot was a bit underdeveloped, and felt like interruptions to an otherwise interesting story at times, while the ending went from believable to over the top. The modern day romance was unnecessary to me as well, and the main character was a bit unlikeable. But I really enjoyed everything in between, and the way the author created the scenarios that tie the tarot deck to the present was great. Would read it once, and potentially see what other books the author has to offer.

I truly loved this book! I had never read a book about Psychometrists before and I was so intrigued and captured by the concept.

Our main characters are Roan and Melicent. They are both Psychometrists meaning they have the ability to touch objects and see the imprints of who it belonged to and basically read the history of any given artifact.

I loved the strong character development, the chemistry between characters, the mystery and puzzle solving was on point, and I thought the pacing of the book was excellently done.

This book has it all mystery, danger, strong characters, a touch of romance. It draws you in and takes you on a delightful adventure. I enjoyed it so much and can’t wait to recommend it to people when it comes out!

Thank you noelleknoxbooks for the inspiration! As someone who reads a little bit of everything, it was challenging to come up with a top overall pick for these genres. Some definitely had stiffer competition than others, and it made me want to seek out more books in genres I don’t typically gravitate towards (romance and fantasy, I’m talking to you).

Picked up from a discount store based on its premise -- which is that Roan can sense an object’s past by touching it, an ability known as psychometry. Psychometrists are rare, and when they start to go missing after investigating strange objects that are found wildly out of place, like a ring belonging to Descartes that was found in prehistoric stone, Roan realizes he and Melicent, a newly-discovered psychometrist, are in danger.
The synopsis on the back was interesting enough to make me grab it, but I was quite let down by this book. There was so little character depth to Roan or Melicent, despite the fact that we spend the entire book with them and watch them fall in love in a matter of days. The relationships that had more potential, like Melicent trying to connect with her teenage brother, whom she has been taking care of since the death of their mother, felt superficial.
The Time Collector is at its best when describing the vivid flashbacks that psychometrists receive upon touching objects, and I wish Womack had pressed a little harder on this concept. The most moving scene was a flashback to one character’s childhood experience with the horrors of the Korean War, and the subsequent understanding of how that shaped what she chose to do with her life. It was a little disappointing to see her left in the background of a less interesting cast of characters.
This book is a short, fast read -- I got through most of it in one sitting and finished it in less than a day, but it wasn’t the most satisfying.
